Stage Set Design: Hedda Gabler and Mrs. Elvsted [Act I, Scene 4], 1906

Hedda: (goes over to Mrs. Elvsted, smiles, and says softly). Well! Now we've killed two birds with one stone.
Mrs. Elvsted: What do you mean?
Hedda: Didn't you realise I wanted to get him out of the room?
Mrs. Elvsted: So that you could write the letter?
Hedda: And so that I could talk to you alone.
Mrs. Elvsted: (confused) About this?
Hedda: Yes, about this.
Mrs. Elvsted:: (in alarm). But there's nothing more to tell, Mrs. Tesman. Really there isn't.
Hedda: Oh, yes there is. There's a lot more. I can see that. Come along, let's sit down and have a little chat. (She pushes Mrs. Elvsted down into the armchair by the stove and seats herself on one of the footstools.)
